Thillaalangadi - Tamil Movie Review

Thillaalangadi, which is an out of dictionary Tamil word (I mean, you won't find a meaning for this word, as it is just created by young generation people as one of their college code words) generally used to refer a "Untrustworthy person". Now a days it is becoming a fashion to name movies like "kettavan" which means "Bad Person" or Thillaalangadi. Once there was a time where movies were titled to give a good impression. Now it is in reverse gear. OK back to the point.

The story is just a one liner (was there a story really? I don't think). Krishna (Jayam Ravi) is a kind of person who will do anything for a kick (no, I don't mean the English term Kick). In Tamil the word kick is commonly used to mention a feeling which you get when you consume alcohol. All clear? So, the hero is a kind of person who does anything to get a feel of the kick. He resigns job every now and then as he didn't get a kick feel. Everything is a fun for him. First 30 mins goes without a bore, as the comedy and the expectation, what this boy will end up with because of his strange nature, holds us.

But after 30 mins, trust me, I felt as if I watched the movie for nearly 5 hours. So dragingggggggggggggg. I yawned every 2 minutes. The movie was dragged here and there without any logic. Even a small kid can question like how a person comes from a foreign country after making so many crimes and still turn into a police officer at the end? How a sincere police officer (Shyam) haunting at the back of a criminal turned soft at the end, in just a minute?. Story flies from India to Malaysia to India. Krishna (Ravi) oscillates from a Software Engineer to Lover boy to Thief to Police Officer. Shyam moves as a story listener to police officer to a silly forgiver.

Heroine Dhamana comes all over the movie, but with less importance and less dress. The motto of a heroine is achieved. That's all. Dhamana, I still remember you just because of the movie "Kalloori". Otherwise, you made a zero impression in my mind, I am sorry.

Over all, I would say, "Thillaalangadi is a movie with No story, No logic, and the director didn't know how to make a finish". I really feel bad that now a days movies are making and giving wrong impressions and impact. Jayam Ravi is shown as a person who go after the term "kick".

Frankly any girl, who gives importance to practical life will never go for such a guy. Because, she cannot live peacefully thinking when this person will get bored with her and go for a change. But the ill-fate of cinema, such characters are portrayed as a hero and I know how much impact it makes, especially on the college students. I had a friend in my college, who will behave like the hero character in a latest hit movie. For example, when were in MCA, a movie named "Dheena" got released and he behaved (all his mannerism, speaking tone, dressing) like Ajith.

I am in general, not a great fan of watching movies (and if you have seen most of my reviews, they were of films some 3-4 years back, which means, I watch movies very late after their release). The main reason is, I have no patience to watch movies till end and tell "I have wasted my 3 hours". So I watch movies which are already judged good or at least a time pass one by others.

But movies of few actors I keep in a sure list that it will at least not a boring one if not a great one. Jayam Ravi is one such actor and this belief increased especially after his movie "Santhosh Subramanian". But now, sorry Ravi, I put back you in the list of check before leap (watch).

And yes, I forgot to mention earlier. The film has vadivel, Prabhu, Suhashini Maniratnam, Santhanam and lot more characters. But no one made any impact and I really wonder how Prabhu and Suhashini acted in such small role, which has no value, which are not remembered too? They came in just 2 or 3 shots as a whole.

I remember a movie named "Rettai Roja" acted by Ramki, Urvasi and Kushboo (Year of release 1996). In that movie also Suhasini comes for only one scene, but you know I still remember the dialogue she speaks to Urvasi in that single scene "You sold your husband to buy my bungalow. I sold my bungalow to save my husband's life. You are still poor". But Thillaalangadi, I don't even remember when and where and what she came for.

Kids are your shadows - Guide them properly

Today, it took me nearly 1 hour to brush my son's teeth. He went all around the house dancing and kept mocking me. But at one point, I became so tired and got angry when he accidentally pushed all the items (paste, brushes) from the shelf. I spanked him. He immediately shouted, cried and raised his hand to spank me back. Though I promised myself not to spank or emotionally hurt my son in anyways, sometimes I break it when things go beyond my crucial point of patience.

When my son raised his hand, though my parental proud got wounded, I realized the truth behind it. What you sow, you will reap it. Not only this incident, many times it happened that my son shouts aloud at me and try to beat me. Even for small matters like not want to have milk, he shouts at an unbearable decibels saying “Amma I don’t want to drink milk”. This is because, once I had that bad habit (I must admit and I feel shame about it) of shouting and spanking him for his mistakes. Though I overcame those depressed days long before, the after effect is still seen precisely. He never does this to his father.

When he commit’s a mistake, even if I politely ask him “Monu, what did you do?”, he shouts and cries in anger to answer my question. But if the same question is asked by his dad, he will hug his neck and with poor innocent tears, he will tell “No accha, I didn’t do that. I tried to keep it proper and it fall accidentally”. I well deserved this, isn’t it?

I got to watch this video recently. How true it is. Kids follow what we say and do. We are the role model to them. They pick everything from us. They learn it from us. I hope my son will forget those short time, I been a bad example to him and learns good things from this new mother.

They have a soul beyond the skin and flesh you see - Don't crush them

The world have improved in all the ways. I am happy. The technologies, communication facilities, lifestyle, everything got changed, well improved. We feel proud. But does the life of woman changed? Of course, you all may jump out of your seats to give the list of educated women, working women and may compare how women started coming out of kitchen and enjoying freedom. Before concluding with your opinion, watch this video. Watch it till the end, if you are real human. You might have wasted your life in a waste chat with your friends. So, this 15 minutes is not going to give you a great loss in life. So, again I stress, watch it till the end point and read further to understand my points.

This cruel world still uses women as a sexual product. Even to advertise a men’s underwear or deodorant, a woman needs to run half naked in the beach. Women are used as a commercial product by the human trafficking gangs, who exploits them just for sex and money. And the cruelty’s severity can be understood when you see how a 3 years old kid got rapped by a gangster. Are they really human beings? 3 years. Is it age to know what sex means? What sin that tender did to this world? Won’t these animals have their own family, kids? Oh how to comment on that, when a father himself sold his daughter to the human trafficking brokers for money. The humanity, love are all vanishing from this earth. Women is looked over by most of the men as just a flesh, a flesh to taste. Can’t they see that women too have soul, life and feelings? They are not just a piece of wood to sit or sleep upon. I wish GOD have a computer where he can press the delete button and take off all these sinners away from the world. The thought that a man can do harm to a child of age 3 or 4 haunts me like a devil. I am often looking at my son’s face. He is 3.5 years and he still looks like a small baby to me, with the innocence still left in his face and actions. How come those cruel animals were able to see or get a luring sexual feel from a child? Frankly, I controlled all my anger and tears back and typing this message in a polite, decent manner.

Hats off to Dr.Sunitha Krishnan for her wonderful service to those poor lives. Listen to her own story in the video. How many of us will have the guts and courage to come over our problems and face the world as she does? I beg those men to behave like a human, if not GOD. I know you won’t respect if I ask questions like “aren’t you born with sisters or don’t you have wife or daughter?”. But each and every man without any exception came to this world through a mother, isn’t it? Do you know the pain of a mother? If you cannot make her proud in bringing you into this world, at least please don’t make her feel shame and cry to have a son like you. Realize, you too will turn old and die. You will not have any proud left in this earth to be remembered, except the title “An animal disguised in human form”.

Vote for our real hero in CNN

I got it in my email.... So resharing it here again...

======================================================================

If you had not heard of Narayanan Krishnan, as I had not, it is a collective failure. This is one of the most incredible stories of personal commitment.

Narayanan Krishnan, all of 29 years old now, does what he was professionally trained to do as a chef. Feed people. Only Krishnan does not do this in the swanky confines of a 5-star hotel. Every day, he wakes up at 4 am, cooks a simple hot meal and then, along with his team, loads it in a van and travels about 200 km feeding the homeless in Madurai , Tamil Nadu.

Krishnan feeds, often with his hands, almost 400 destitute people every day. And for those who need it, he provides a free haircut too.

According to CNN, eight years ago, this award-winning chef with a five-star hotel chain was all set to go to Switzerland for a high-profile posting. On a visit to a Madurai temple, he came across a homeless, old man eating his own human waste. That stark sight changed Krishnan's life.

Much to the dismay of his parents, CNN says, Krishnan abandoned his career plans and decided to spend his life and his professional training in looking after those who could not care for themselves. He has provided more than 1.2 million hot meals through his nonprofit organisation Akshaya Trust, and now hopes to extend this to shelter for the homeless too.

Krishnan is the only Indian in a list of 10 heroes that CNN has picked worldwide to honour. One of them will be chosen CNN Hero of the Year, selected by the public through an online poll. If many Indians get together to vote for this inspiring man, he can win by a long mile.

If Krishnan wins he will get $100,000 in addition to the $25,000 that he gets for being shortlisted for the Top 10. Akshaya Trust needs all the monetary support it can get to build on Krishnan's dream. Let's help him get there.

Vote for Krishnan here.

The poll continues through November 18 at 6 a.m. ET.

Lime Juice - Good for Digestion after a heavy meal?????

While doing my final year project in Bangalore, we, a group of friends used to go together for lunch. Generally we used to go to the simple hotels, have our lunch and rush back to our seats. Of course, we cannot spend the money in star hotels sent by our poor dads that time ;-)

One day, I guess, some time around Christmas, we all planned to go for a star hotel for lunch and celebrate. We have a proverb in tamil which says "Pattikaataan muttai kadayai vai polandhu parthadhu pola" which means, "A villager who looked at the confectionery shop with his mouth wide open". We all looked at the hotel like that (point to note here is, we were all from some small villages).

We had a great lunch together. We were prepared to pay the bill. Then came a bowl of water, with a piece of lemon floating in it. None of us knew what to do with it. We all looked at each other. Suddenly, one of my friend shouted "I knew what it is for. We had a heavy lunch. So, to avoid digestion problems, the hotel is providing lemon juice free of cost". Saying this, my friend started to crush the lemon in the warm water and started drinking.

We all felt proud of our friend's in-depth knowledge and were ready to follow to his foot mark. Everyone started crushing their lemon pieces. But before we put the bowl in our lips, a hotel attender ran to my friend and said politely "Sir, this is not drinking water. This is for hand wash purpose".

OK.... Now, no more questions like, what happened after that and how we all escaped from the hotel, without a piece of towel covering our faces, how we handled our friend after that, and who that friend is, and which country he is living now...

No no no... I am not going to give you the answer or clues ;-)
